Constitution of the National Apostolate for Inclusion Ministry

Preamble  Persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities are an integral part of society, equal to others, and possessing a fundamental value and dignity.  By reason of Baptism, they have a right to full membership in the Church and are recipients of what the Church offers.  They are contributors to the Church by virtue of their individual value and of the positive Christian attitudes they stimulate in others.

Article One -- Name  The name of this organization shall be the National Apostolate for Inclusion Ministry (NAfIM).

Article Two -- Nature  The National Apostolate for Inclusion Ministry is a recognized Catholic, non-profit organization, following a parliamentary procedure according to Robert’s Rules of Order (Newly Revised).

Article Three -- Purpose  Th principal purposes for which this association is formed are as follows:

  1. To promote the full inclusion of persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities within the life of the Church. 
  2. To enhance the growth of persons with intellectual/develpmental disabilities and the entire Church through the prophetic role of persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities. 
  3. To take steps in both the Church and the community at large, on a national and local level, to bring before the public the spiritual, interpersonal and communal gifts of persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities. 
  4. To foster quality evangelization, catechesis, sacramental preparation and participation, and ongoing spiritual development of persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities.  
  5. To promote welcome and justice for persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities both in the Church and in the community at large, on a national and local level.  
  6. To promote pastoral care for persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities, their families and caregivers within the local faith community.  
  7. To provide a forum for those involved in direct ministry with persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities.

 Article Four -- Membership  Anyone who is interested in the purposes for which the National Apostolate for Inclusion Ministry is organized may become a member upon complying with the provisions for membership.
