NAfIM History
1961-67
Beginnings of a vision for a national organization.
1967
The National Apostolate For The Mentally Retarded (NAMR) was officially established.
1968
NAMR Quarterly began publication.
1970
NAMR officially recognized as a national organization within the Church and included in the Official Catholic Directory.
1973-74
National NAMR Office established with an Executive Director; NAMR name changed to National Apostolate With Mentally Retarded Persons (NAMRP).
1979-82
Emphasis on bridging with other organizations to create further consciousness of the need to be inclusive of people with mental retardation in the Church and in society.
1989
Board of Directors study to plan future direction of NAMRP.
1992
Name changed to National Apostolate With People With Mental Retardation (NAPMR).
1995
Initiated funding support for Rose Kennedy curricula.
1997
Name changed to National Apostolate for Inclusion Ministry (NAfIM).
