The group apostolate is in happy harmony therefore with a fundamental need in the faithful, a need that is both human and Christian. At the same time it offers a sign of the communion and unity of the Church in Christ, who said: "Where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there in the midst of them." (Matthew 18:20) Vatican II, Apostolican Actuositatem, #18
The National Apostolate for Inclusion Ministry is a membership organization and community of parents, people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD), pastors, priests, deacons, parish ministers, diocesan leaders, religious education and special needs educators, university professionals, and supporters of NAfIM's Mission and Vision. Members are concerned with societal justice and pastoral care for people with mental retardation, autism, intellectual, cognitive and developmental disabilities and related disabilities and their families and caregivers.
Among other things, members receive the NAfIM Messenger, newsletter, and have exclusive access to the Archives of the NAfIM ONLINE JOURNAL, and in the future to past issues of the Apostolate's Quarterly Publication, as they are added to the web.
Members get together at the annual meeting, usually held in the summer. Our meetings and conferences are spirited affairs giving members and participants a chance to meet new friends, renew old acquaintances, discuss pertinent issues and receive spiritual refreshment. When there is no conference, a workshop for members is held in conjunction with the summer board meeting. People with IDD and members of the public are welcome to the meetings, workshops and conferences.
